1

Day One: Marrakech to Imlil to Tacheddirt.

After breakfast, we depart Marrakech and drive to Imlil via Asni. Imlil serves as the main trailhead for hikers and is a bustling market town, filled with people descending from the mountains and others preparing for their journeys. We meet our mule team, load our gear, and start our trek along the valley towards Tacheddirt, located about 8 km from Imlil. The trail soon ascends to the Tizi n'Tamatert pass (2,279m), followed by a descent to the charming village of Ouaneskra. We continue for another half-hour to Tacheddirt (3,000m), where we typically camp by the river.

2

Day Two: Tacheddirt to Azib Likemt.

We cross the valley and start a gradual ascent to Tizi Likemt (3,555m). The path is challenging due to loose scree. At the summit, we get our first stunning view of the Toubkal massif before a lengthy descent to the village of Azib Likemt, where we camp for the night.

3

Day Three: Azib Likemt - Tizi n'Ourai - Amsouzert

This long yet manageable day takes us through diverse landscapes. From Tizi n'Ououraine (3,120m), we admire views of the Toubkal massif, including the summit, east face, and Ifni Dome (3,876m). The trail continues to Amsouzert, a stunning village where we will spend the night in a Berber house.

4

Day Four Amsouzert - Ifni Lake

West of Amsouzert, we explore several small villages on our way to Ifni Lake, the lone lake in the massif. It's a striking sight, nestled among rocky mountains and large piles of rubble, with an unusual depth. We plan to arrive by lunchtime and spend the afternoon relaxing by the shore. Tonight, we will camp in this area.

5

Day Five: Ifni Lake to Nelter Refuge

We should now be fit and acclimatized, ready for the toughest day of the trek. We follow a steep path up an endless scree slope until we reach Tizi n'Ouanoums (3,664m), a narrow ledge between two rock faces. From there, we make a long zigzag descent to Nelter Hut, our mountain refuge for the night.

6

Day Six: Refuge Toubkal – Toubkal Summit – Imlil – Marrakech

Enjoy an early breakfast before departing around 6 am for a three-hour steep climb to the highest peak in the Maghreb (4167m). The views from the summit are breathtaking. When ready, we'll take the Ikkhibi Sud or South Cirque for a guided 2 to 3-hour descent back to the Refuge for a picnic lunch. Afterward, we’ll head north along steep, zigzagging trails down the higher slopes of the Valley of the Assif n'Isouhouanem n'Ouagounss towards the Shrine of Sidi Chamharouch, located by a waterfall. This pilgrimage 'marabout' shrine, likely a remnant of pre-Islamic culture, is off-limits to non-Muslims. Another 2-hour downhill trek will bring us to the village of Imlil, where most treks begin, before we return to Marrakech.
